Tour Dates 6-10 July 2015 – includes the 30,000th sounding of The Last Post in Ypres

Arrival Day 1 (Orientation to the Western Front)

  • Early morning ferry or train to Calais
  • Morning visit to Vimy Ridge and the Canadian Memorial and trench systems
  • Ride to Arras and the Carriere Wellington – visit the tunnels of Arras 1917 and the Arras Memorial
  • Ride to Peronne and an evening ride optional

Day 2

  • Early start ride to Verdun and visit the Ossuary, Douaumont Fort, Vaux Fort, Bayonet Trench and the surrounding battlefields of the Argonne
  • Afternoon ride around the Verdun salient and return towards the Somme via Peronne or Villiers Bretonneux (weather and time permitting)

Day 3

  • A full day on the Somme. Ride on to Albert and the Somme battlefields, including Thipeval and La Boisselle (The Lochnagar Crater). We take you through the timeline of the battle and visit many of the cemeteries and memorials, including High Wood and Delville Wood

Day 4  (9 July)

  • Visit the Loos battlefields and Fromelles (time permitting)
  • Ride through Ploegsteert and southern salient and on into Belgium
  • Afternoon ride to the Hooge Crater museum, Hill 62 and Railway Wood, Hell-Fire corner.
  • Ride the length of the Messines Ridge mine chain from Hill 60 to Messines. Start with a ride to Hill 60 and a visit to the memorials.
  • Visit to the Messines Ridge and Wijstschaete. Visit the Peace garden and trench excavations (if open).
  • Attend The 30,000th Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate

Last Post

Day 5

  • Morning ride to Passchendaele village and surrounding battlefields, including the Canadian memorial at St Julien, the Harry Patch memorial stone (Langemark). the German cemetery at Langemark and the fields of Flanders mud.
  • Ride on to Tyne Cot cemetery and visitor centre. Poppy Cross laying if desired.
  • Ride towards Poperinghe, coffee and visit to TocH (tour TBC)
  • Visit to Ljissthenhoek Cemetery on the Poperinghe-Steenvoorde Road
  • Afternoon ride to Calais and the train or ferry to England.
